Can you install Exchange Server 2010 on Windows 2008 SBS ?

You may have asked yourself if it is possible to install Exchange 2010 over Windows 2008 SBS edition. Here are some facts that we found out while trying to acomplish this.
- There is no Windows SBS 2008 edition that is Exchange free. Windows Server 2008 SBS cannot be deployed without Exchange Server 2007.
- What is more, Exchange 2007 cannot be fully uninstalled from Windows 2008 SBS Server. Exchange 2010 installer will always report that some data from the previous installation of Exchange 2007 is present in the system.
- Microsoft states that Exchange Server 2010 is not compatible with Windows Server 2008 SBS edition. During the installation Exchange Server 2010 is always performing the compatibility test. This test will fail.
So, Exchange Server 2010 cannot be installed on the Windows 2008 SBS edition.
So far Microsoft has not released any information on developing the next Windows SBS edition including Exchange Server 2010.
