Clear Type option is by default enabled on Windows Vista. It allows to smoothen edges of fonts used in Windows interface. Originally it was used to visually improve the text information on a laptop LCD screen. While clear type was also available in Windows XP, it was not enabled there by default.
Clear Type font looks sharp and clear enough on a desktop PC, however, some people may not like the setting, so here is a way to change it:
- Right click on your Desktop.
- In the drop-down menu that appears, click Personalize.
- In the Personalize window, click the Windows Color and Appearance option.
- In the Classic Appearance Properties window, press the Effects button.
- A small Effects window will appear. Under the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts section you will see an option box - click the arrow to the right of the box and select either Standard or Clear Type depending upon which one you require.
- Next click OK all the way out and close the Classic Appearance Setting window.
- Close the Personalization window.
The result of this will be either enabled or disabled Clear Type font, depending on your choice.
