I've been recently bombarded with news, blogs, reviews about Google Apps for syncing Microsoft Outlook items and Google Calendar. My RSS feeds boiled over with download links to Google Apps. I couldn't help by try them all. Help yourself - said Google who pretty often put their applications on pedestal and have a reason for that - using their software is worth a candle since it is easy, really useful and, first and foremost, for free. I love Gmail and all the stuff that goes along with it (except for the Buzz) and I think it tops all other web and not-web mail clients.
When it comes to sync software, the story is a little bit different. A few months ago I had a chance to compare a few enterprise applications for syncing Microsoft Outlook and can now compare them with Google Sync and Google Calendar Sync without doing much research first. Let's compare it with CodeTwo Public Fodlers as this is the software I chose for my company when doing the comparison of 4 different enterprise sync solutions.
CodeTwo Public Folders is simply a little Microsoft Outlook addin for sharing Outlook calendars, contacts, tasks, mail and files with other users in LAN. It reminds me of Exchange Server but is as easy to install and use as Google software. Moreover, it does the sync in real-time and protects all shared data from loss and unauthorized access. Those who use Google Apps should already know the differences. Anyway, I think the table below might say a little bit more than a bulk of text.
| Features: | Google Sync | Google Calendar Sync | CodeTwo Public Folders |
| Real-time synchronization | no | no | yes |
| All outlook items synchronization | no | no | yes |

All in all, there are pros and cons in all of these programs but I hope the table might help some of you decide which program would best suit your needs. If you wish to learn more about Google Apps or CodeTwo Public Folders visit their websites:
