Microsoft Outlook troubleshooting
In Microsoft Outlook you have an option to mark messages with appropriate date flags (e.g. today, tomorrow etc), set up reminders or mark messages according to their read/unread status. If you have several users using the same inbox folder it becomes problematic to administer the messages.  You can prepare a new, custom field that you probably know from the Tasks’ folder with an option to tick the message when it is read, finished or done.
In MS Outlook 2010:
  1. Go to the Inbox folder.
  2. Right click on the columns and select View Settings.
  3. Click the Other settings button
  4. Check the option called "Allow in-cell editing" (Fig.1.)

  1. Confirm the changes with the OK buttons.
  2. Again, right click on the columns and select Field Chooser.
  3. Click the "New..." button.
  4. Define the fields as follows: Name - your name for the new field; Type - Yes/No; Format - Icon (Fig.2.).

Fig.2. Defining new field properties.

  1. Drag-and-drop the new field on the messages’ list, between the current columns.
  2. Close the Field Chooser window.
Now, you can tick any message you like. This way, you can mark certain messages for you or for others. Unlike the flags, this field is more convenient because it does not show tasks on the To-Do bar and it is independent of the flag's status (Fig.3.).

You can always disable this option when you drag-and-drop your custom field from the columns elsewhere.

Using Outlook 2010. I have enabled "in cell editing" but when I move e-mail to another folder, the data written in the cell disappears. Can you tell me why and how to fix this...thank you...rob
