
How to setup email account in Outlook Express

The article describes how to properly configure POP3/SMTP email account in Outlook Express in a few simple steps.
Alternatively you can use freeware tool CodeTwo Outlook AutoConfig that will automatically create your email account in Microsoft Outlook Express just by providing your email address.
Here is how you can do it manually:
- Go to menu Tools, Accounts, Mail tab.
- Click Add button, choose Mail (Fig. 1).

- In new window type your personal data in the Display name field. Bear in mind that it will be displayed at the recipients (Fig. 2).

- Click Next button. In E-mail address field type your email address (Fig. 3).

- On the next page type Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server and Outgoing mail (SMTP) server (Fig. 4).

- Click Next button. Account name is usually the first part of your email address or full address. In Password field type the password defined during account registration (Fig. 5).

- On the last page of the Wizard click Finish button.
- After closing the Wizard the new configured account will appear on the list. Select it and click Properties button. Go to the Servers tab and check My server requires authentication option (Fig. 6).

Advanced settings of mail accounts
Some servers require changing the ports in Outlook Express. You need to go to the account Properties and choose Advanced tab (Fig. 7). Change the required port numbers and also, if necessary, check the This server requires a secure connection (SSL) option.

Additional settings for gmail.com service
To be able to receive and send emails from gmail.com account you need to check Enable POP3 for all mail option in the gmail account settings (Forwarding and POP3/IMAP tab) - Fig. 8.
