Microsoft Outlook troubleshooting

The feature that is quite commonly discussed is the possibility of opening eml files from Outlook Express or Windows LiveMail in Microsoft Outlook. For MS Outlook 2010 users it's quite simple - this feature is implemented in the program. Users of Outlook 2007, however, need some more configuring.

The first thing to do to open eml files in Outlook is downloading and installing Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Outlook 2007, or a hotfix for Windows. After installing the SP2 or the hotfix, a situation where no changes are applied can take place. In that case it will be necessary to edit registry settings in order to apply the changes. To do this, you need to:

1. Start the registry editor by hitting Windows key + R, typing in regedit command and hitting Enter.

2. Find the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft Internet Mail Message\shell\open\command

3. Right-click (Default), then Modify.

4. Enter - or copy/paste - the following line:

"%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE" /eml "%1"

then click OK and close the registry editor.

From now on it is possible to open eml files in MS Outlook 2007.
