There has been definitely some noise about sharing mail, calendar and contacts on the net. Mostly, thanks to Google, whose expansion in that field has been recently strongly intensified. Well, there's surely one advantage of Google Apps that you can't deny - mostly, they are for free. But apart from that, can you really be sure that all data shared in such enormous resources remains always safe? I doubt that (see examples on Cnet, Idealware or in this article).
That's why I turned my eyes on other syncing tools available on the web, especially those listed on slipstick. Inspired by Saymon's comparison of Google syncing tools and CodeTwo Public Folders I decided to check whether it's possible to use the program from CodeTwo for syncing Outlook between only two machines, for instance a PC I use in the office and a laptop I usually carry with me when I'm among my clients. Did that work? Actually it worked really fine and to be honest, I'd rather spend some money on a safe solution that I can really depend on rather than risk revealing all precious data to the hackers while using Google.
Take a look at the article about how to sync two machines using CodeTwo Public Folders on CodeTwo corporate blog
